On Your Terms:
Ethics-First Business for Women Entrepreneurs

with Nikki Hart-Brinkley

You didn't start your business to compromise your values. Yet, between clients who push boundaries, financial pressures that cloud judgment, and the professional expectations you inherited — rather than chose — integrity can start to feel like a luxury.

This month's program is a working session for women business owners who want their values to actually run their business, not just hang on the wall. In this hands-on workshop, we'll work through three practical questions together:

  • What do you stand for? Define your own professional code of ethics in plain language — creating a guide that reflects your specific values rather than boilerplate.
  • What do you need? Identify the support, structures, and boundaries that make living your ethics sustainable, rather than just aspirational.
  • What do you need from your clients? Draft a client code of conduct that sets clear expectations for the professional relationships that allow you to do your best work.

This is a conversation among peers, not a lecture. Come ready to think, share, and leave with a tangible plan.

About Nikki Hart-Brinkley

Nikki Hart-Brinkley is a professional geospatial consultant and co-owner of Green Top Planning, Development & Research, and serves as co-chair of GIS In Action, the premier GIS conference in Oregon. She is a longtime mentor to women in the geospatial field and is committed to elevating emerging professionals throughout their careers.

Interestingly, her favorite course in her GIS program had nothing to do with computers — it was about the ethics of using spatial data. That question has followed her into every project since.
