Breaking Barriers,
from Dreams to Reality

With Patsy Smullin

To kick off 2025, Patricia (Patsy) Smullin will discuss how she grew up in the local broadcasting business and share advice with today's entrepreneurs. Patsy is the highly respected president and owner of KOBI-TV and parent company California Oregon Broadcasting Inc. (COBI), a female rarity in the broadcasting business.

COBI is the longest continuously operated independent broadcasting organization in the West. Its holdings include television stations serving California and Oregon and a digital video production company, Pilot Rock.

In November of 2024, Patsy was honored as one the Giants of Broadcasting & Electronic Arts by the Library of American Broadcasting Foundation in New York. She has also been recognized with countless other awards, including:

  • 2007 - National Broadcasters Foundation Pioneer Award
  • 2008 - Oregon Association of Broadcaster’s Tom McCall Leadership Award for outstanding service to the state and to the nation
  • 2019 - Chuck Sherman Television Leadership Award from the National Association of Broadcasters
  • The Governor’s Gold Award for service to Oregon
  • 2023 - The Medford Mayor's Award, when Mayor Randy Sparacino also declared Aug. 17, 2023 to be Patsy Smullin Day
